About Us
On behalf of the Fort Bend Teen Service League (FBTSL), I would like to welcome you to our web site.
Now serving my second term as the President of the FBTSL Advisory Board, it has been such a privilege to work with an outstanding group of young women serving Fort Bend County. These dedicated teens are not only involved in their community through FBTSL, but many of them are involved in their schools and churches and serve countless hours to those in need. Giving back to the community in which they live is alive and well in this fine group of future leaders. Our future is in good hands!
In 2005, a group of women from the Fort Bend Junior Service League (FBJSL) decided that there was a growing need for an organized way for the teen girls of the community to become involved outside of their church and school service groups. Thus, they conceived the idea of creating the Fort Bend Teen Service League as a project of FBJSL. The organization sparked the interest of many teens in the area, and by the second year of its inception, the league had over 100 members.
Many of the members from the first year are now seniors in high school and are still active in FBTSL, serving in leadership positions on our Teen Board. The leadership skills developed, the lasting friends formed, and the person growth achieved in each of our members is nothing short of remarkable.
With each new year, we add more events and projects so that our community outreach can stretch as far as possible in the Fort Bend County area. This year we are not only continuing the projects with our core placements in the county, but FBTSL will host its first fund raising event, Glitter & Gloss, set for April 10, 2010, at the Sugar Land Community Center, benefiting the FBJSL Community Assistance Fund. With this addition to the FBTSL calendar, our members will be able to see first hand what it takes to host an eventÑfrom the planning and organizing, getting sponsorships and donation, to the decorating and clean-up. They will be involved every step of the way!
It will be an exciting year for FBTSL. Please enjoy exploring our web site as you learn more about how this amazing group of teenagers is impacting the Fort Bend County community. It is our hope that their actions will inspire you to become involved as a member of either FBTSL or FBJSL or as a supporter of one of the league's many events.
Young women CAN make a difference!
